Attachment: Explanation of Present Continuous Tense(Progressive)

Present continuous tense dibentuk dengan auxiliary verb “be”, berupa is/am/are

Waktu yang digunakan, sedang sekarang  present tense (waktu sekarang),  dan present participle (V1-ing).

Umumnya tense ini hanya terjadi pada aksi berupa dynamic verb (kata kerja yang dinamis, menunjukkan subjectnya aktif bergerak atau berbuat), bukan stative verb (kata kerja yang menyatakan kondisi subject)contoh: agree (setuju), appear(muncul), believe (mempercayai), belong (memiliki), concern (mencakup, consist (terdiri dari), contain (mengandung), hate (benci), depend (bergantung).

 Jadi secara umum hanya dynamic verb yang memiliki bentuk continuous.

Present continuous tense untuk membicarakan suatu rencana atau perpindahan ke suatu tempat/kondisi.	I’m spending my holiday on Kuta beach next month. (Saya sedang menghabiskan liburan di pantai Kuta akhir bulan depan.)
	You can’t call me this night. I’m going to my best friend’s wedding. (Kamu tidak dapat menghubungi saya malam ini. Saya akan pergi ke pernikahan sahabat saya.)

Present continuous tense untuk mengungkapkan kejengkelan atas aksi yang terjadi berulang kali.	Why is the wild dog always barking at me? (Mengapa anjing liar itu selalu menggonggong pada saya?)

MATERI TENTANG SOME ANY AND NO

SOME, ANY, NO AND NONE

Some dan any memiliki arti sejumlah tertentu ‘a certain number or amount’. Somedan any digunakan dengan plural atau dengan uncountable nouns.

Penggunaan some:

a.                   Some dapat menjadi bentuk plural dari bentuk a/an atau one:

Have a candy/ some candies

I ate a date/ some dates

b.                  Some, any, dan none dapat digunakan dengan of + the/ this/ these/ those/ possessive/ personal pronoun.

Some of the students can solve the math problems

Did any of your photo come out well?

c.                   Some digunakan dengan affirmative verbs:

She brought some honey

d.                  Dalam pertanyaan yang mengharapkan jawaban ‘yes’

Did some of you do the tasks well? (I expect so)

e.                   Dalam offers dan request

Could you do some writing for me?

Penggunaan any:

a.                   Any digunakan dengan negative verbs

She didn’t complete any task.

b.                  Any digunakan dengan hardly, barely, scarely, karena kata kata ini memiliki arti yang hampir negative.

I have scarely any experience time

c.                   Any Digunakan dengan without. Maka, ketika kita menulis/mengatakan without any… artinya sama dengan with no…

He passed the test without any difficulty/ with no difficulty

d.                  Any Digunakan dalam kalimat Tanya, kecuali dengan hal-hal yang disebutkan di atas.

Did I get any gift?

e.                   Any Digunakan setelah if/wether dan dalam menunjukan keragu-raguan.

Some atau any digunakan dengan singular, countable nouns. Some disini berarti sesuatu yang tidak diketahui secara spesifik.

Some walker left the trush irresponsibly.

Kita juga bisa menambahkan or other untuk menegaskan bahwa si pembicara tidak terlalu tertarik dengan sesuatu yang dia bicarakan.

He doesn’t believe in conventional medicine, he has some remedy or other of his own

Penggunaan Any=Every dan No

1.                  Any dapat berarti every, meskipun tidak memiliki arti secara khusus

Any cap can pick you to the place where you want.

Any dictionary will give you the meaning of these words.

2.                  No (adjective) dan none (pronoun)

a.                   No dan none dapat digunakan dengan affirmative verb untuk menunjukan kalimat negative.

She has no oranges. She had last week but she has none now

b.                  No + noun dapat berfungsi sebagai subject sebuah kalimat.

No book (s) left

No work was done

c.                   None juga dapat digunakan sebagai subject, namun sangat jarang jika berdiri sendiri.

Penggunaan none sebagai subject biasanya ditambah of.

I look for plates, but none is on the table.

None of the visitor left the trash.

Someone, somebody, something, anyone, anybody, anything, no one, nobody, nothing, seperti halnya keterangan penggunaan some. any dan no di atas

Contoh:

Someone helps me to complete this.

Someone/somebody gave me this useful book.

No one/nobody has ever given me the book.

Did you need anything from the fridge?

Would anyone/anybody like a tea?

Someone, somebody, anyone, anybody, no one, nobody, dapat menjadi possessive:

Someone’s phone is ringing.

Is that somebody’s/anybody’s book?

I don’t want to use anyone’s money.

Pronoun dan possessive adjective dengan Someone, somebody, anyone, anybody, no one, nobody, everyone, everybody. Semua ekspresi ini memiliki arti singular dan jugamenggunakan singular verb. Sehingga, personal pronoun dan possessive adjective nya menggunakan he/she, him/her, his/her.

Namun, dalam bahasa percakapan inggris bentuk plural lebih umum digunakan.

Has anyone taken their food on the table?

No one saw John go out, did they?

Untuk something, anything, nothing maka yang umum digunakan adalah it. Something went wrong, didn’t it?

Another, other, others dengan one dan some.
