I. SUMARY

Mr. Allen and his American friend Mr. Burrows are in Southampton.

Mr. Allen asks his friend to go to London with him.  His friend answers that he will be pleased to go, for he does not know London and does not want to leave England without seeing it. The two friends decide to stay a week in London and then go to Paris.

Mr. Allen says that they can cross the Channel by one of the different sea routers or by air. Mr. Burrows answers that he does not like flying, and they decide it will be better to go by sea.  Then they looh at a time-table and decide to take  the train leaving Southampton on the following morning at 8.5 a.m.  The train will be in London about two hours later, and they will have plenty of time to go to their hotel and look at the principal streets.

II. READING AND CONVERSATION

Mr. Allen: Will you go to London with me tomorrow?
Mr. Burrows: With pleasure. I don't know London and I don't  want to leave England without seeing it.
Mr. Allen: Very well then, we can start tomorrow morning if you like.  Will five minutes past eight be too early?
Mr. Burrows:Oh no! That will be all right. We can stay a week in London and then go to Paris.
Mr. Allen: That is a good idea.  Can you speak French?
Mr. Burrows:Not very well. I learnt French at school, but I wasn't a good pupil and didn't study very seriously. I have forgotten all that I knew.
Mr. Allen: I also was taught French at school, but I don't remember very much either
Mr. Burrows:Well we can take a few French lessons in London before we cross the Channel. Is the crossing a pleasant one?
Mr. Allen: Crossing the Channel in fine weather is not all disagreeable and the trip is not very long
Which is the best route?
Mr. Allen: If you prefer a short Channel passage, we can go by Dover and Calais of Folkestone-Boulogne; the crossing takes only from one hour to an hour and a half.  Otherwise we can go via Newhaven and Dieppe.  By the letter route the crossing takes longer, but the railway journey is shorter.  Of course, if you like, we can fly over.
Mr. Burrows:Oh no! I am not fond of travelling by air when I am not obliged to.  But the last time you went to France, didn't you go by Southampton?
Mr. Allen: Yes, I went by the Southampton-Harve route, and I have also crossed by the ferry-boat, but these routes are only for night service
Mr. Burrows:I prefer going via Dover and Calais as I have been told that Channel crossings are often very rough.
Mr. Allen: Well, we can decide that question later
Mr. Burrows:Have you looked at the time table to see at what time we shall arrive in London tomorrow?
Mr. Allen: Yes, I have. Our train leaves Southampton at five minutes past eight and arrives in London at twenty past ten. It is non-stop train.
Mr. Burrows:That is very convenient; we shall have plenty of time to find a good hotel and afterwards we can look at the principal streets before lunch
Mr. Allen: Very well, shall I call for you at half past seven or shall we meet here?
Mr. Burrows:Will you call for me, as I have a great deal to do to get ready for the journey? I must therefore leave you now. Good-bye, I'll see you tomorrow.

I. RINGKASAN

II. BACA DAN KONVERSASI

Mr Allen: maukah kamu pergi ke London bersamaku besok?

Mr Burrows: Dengan senang hati.

Bisakah kamu berbicara bahasa jepang?

Mr. Burrows: Tidak begitu baik.

Mr. Burrows: Mana rute terbaik?

Selamat tinggal, sampai jumpa besok.
