READING AND CONVERSATION for HUMAN BEING (SENSES AND FEELING) TEXT

TASK I. HEAR WELL THE PRONUNCIATION OF TEACHER'S READING AND FOLLOW AFTER HER/HIM

Mr Allen: Did you enjoy your afternoon at the Zoo yesterday?

Mr. Burrows: Yes, very much. It's very funny but everytime I visit to the Zoo. I always wonder whether animals can reason or whether they only act by instinct. What do you think?

Mr Allen: That is a very difficult question to answer. It is so difficult to say where instinct ends and reason begins. (It's easy to answer for the believer, when Alloh created Adam as, in human soul, spirit, brain and heart). We had a cat which had kittens. When they began to eat solid food, every day she carried pieces of meat and fish we gave her to the little ones.  One day, we gave the kittens to some friends, but for a day or two she continued to carry food to the place where the kittens had been. I suppose that was instinct.  Then she stopped doing so. Had she begun to reason?

Mr. Burrows:How can we know? If only animals could speak!

Mr Allen: Well, if they cannot speak or reason as human beings do, at least some of their senses are much more acute than ours. My dog, for example, is getting old and his sight is not very good, but he can still find me by his sense of smell.

Mr. Burrows:Yes, and then there is the sense of sight of some birds, like eagles, or others such as pegions, which must have a sixth sense-that of direction. What do you think of their feelings compared to ours?

Mr Allen: With human beings, different feelings are much more than with animals. Is the feeling that animals show for their young and their master instinct or is it something higher?

Mr. Burrows: I don't suppose anybody can answer that question.
This suggests another question: "Do animals hate?"

Mr. Burrows: The cat is said to hate the dog.  Sometimes we even say: "To live a cat and  dog life" to express that a husband and his wife cannot agree.

Mr Allen: Personally, I don't think it is hate, but rather instinctive fear-at least where cats and dogs are concerned!

Mr. Burrows: Perhaps. I wonder what the time is. Remember, we promised to dine with Mr. and Mrs. Jones and their family.

Mr Allen: It's five to six. We has better go and get ready, and as it's such a fine evening we can walk to their place.

Mr Allen: It's five to six. We has better go and get ready, and as it's such a fine evening we can walk to their place.

Mr Allen: Apakah Anda menikmati sore Anda di Kebun Binatang kemarin?

Mr Burrows: Ya, sangat banyak.

Mr Allen: Sudah jam lima sampai enam.
